College Admissions: From a Financial Perspective - Evelyn Alexander
Certified Educational Planner Evelyn Alexander, owner of Los Angeles-based Magellan College Counseling, will discuss the financial components of the college admission process, and help you reduce clients' anxiety about paying for their kids' college education. She will discuss the difference between merit-based aid and need-based aid, as well as the different forms and information required by colleges to determine parents' ability to pay.

Evelyn will offer resources that financial planners can use to help clients go beyond rumor to find data about actual college cost, and colleges' financial aid track records, which is the best predictor of their future financial aid behavior.

Evelyn's goal will be to help you feel more comfortable and confident talking with clients about funding their child's (children's) education.

Managing Investor Behavior - Dan Kullman
There is an ever-increasing amount of information available about behavioral finance and abundant evidence of the average investor's poor ability to navigate markets. Yet, the advisory community has produced limited guidance for advisors who wish to curb biases and improve investor decision making.
This course distills a wealth of information about investor behavior into practical tools and processes.
The intended outcome is to train advisors to implement investor behavioral considerations when building portfolios, create greater client understanding and deeper client relationships, and improve competitive differentiation.

We would like to thank our April Sponsor - TOEWS

Speaker(s):

College Admissions: From a Financial Perspective, Evelyn Alexander

Evelyn Alexander founded Magellan College Counseling in 2011. Magellan has eight independent college counselors in Los Angeles and Boston who work with students across the United States, helping students explore, prepare for and apply to colleges, working with high schoolers and their families to find the academic environments in which they will be happy and successful.

Evelyn holds a Bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Arts from George Washington University, and a Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA. She is one of only 37 Certified Educational Planners in California, the highest designation available in the college counseling profession. She served as an alumni volunteer for Johns Hopkins for 15 years, interviewing students, representing Hopkins at college fairs and speaking about the admissions process at highly selective colleges.

Ms. Alexander served for seven years as President of the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association's Los Angeles chapter, as well as on the National Alumni Council for six years. She also chaired the JHU Second Decade Society's Admissions Committee for six years, launching a national program to recruit underrepresented minority students to Hopkins.

Before embarking on her career in college counseling, Evelyn enjoyed a successful fifteen-year political consulting career. A San Fernando Valley native, Evelyn lives with her husband and two dogs in Topanga Canyon. She enjoys hiking through the Santa Monica Mountains and cooking. She has run 16 half marathons and has been a licensed pilot for over 20 years.
